Cinq ans après, D'Angelo récidive en sortant l'album Voodoo, l'album de la consécration. Il remporte 2 Grammy Awards pour meilleur album et meilleur chanteur R&B.

Un titre et un clip émerge de cet album, Untitled, clip dont les femmes sont folles et dans lequel D'Angelo y apparait totalement nu et en gros plan.

Après de nombreux featuring, dont certain avec Raphael Saadiq ( Be Here ), D'Angelo se met en pose. Entre problèmes de drogue et accident de voiture, la carrière de D'Angelo ne connait pas la suite annoncée. Depuis 2005, les ennuis pour ce chanteur talentueux s'enchaîne.

D'Angelo a participé aux albums de Lauryn Hill, Snoop Dogg, J Dilla, Raphael Saadiq, Slum Village, Angie Stone ( avec qui il a eu un fils ) , The Roots.
